Christmas Potluck

I was happy to participate in the Sing Along we all put together. It reminded me of my days in choir back in elementary school that I so enjoyed participating in. I enjoyed how we all took turns in leading the songs but as a group, we were still all together. I think we the potluck would have been really dull if were did not do the concert at all. Mike and Rob once again have set a standard in video technology with Chasteauneufing!!! Great work class!!

All the Concerts.....

Over the last few months, I have had the opportunity to see quite a few concerts. Which I do not normally do on a regular basis. The first was the Beach Boys their concert was so up beat all night, they did not want people sitting down at all it seemed. Their music has a very upbeat and happy feeling, which is wonderful. I got the tickets because I thought it would be a neat to see them, I didn’t have any of their CD’s but I was impressed by the talents that was still around after this many years.
The next concert I had a chance to see was Celine Dion in Edmonton. This was one of my life long dream since I was about 10 or 12 years old. Myself and two girlfriends all went to Edmonton to see her concert. It was amazing! Her voice radiated throughout Rexall Place. I remember the first time I heard her in sing in grade 8 French class and did not know who she was until my teacher had said her name. That was the same year she became very well known and from that, point on I had every CD available in English. So when she came on stage it was unbelievable to think I was finally there! Me and my girlfriends wanted to go to Las Vegas but could not afford it. So when this opportunity arose their was no question we would be there one way or another…
The second group was the Backstreet Boys which I liked but never owned any of their CD but did enjoy listening to them. They bring back memories of grades 10, 11, and12. I always thought they have great talent they brought back the idea of the boy band once again. I was always more of a Nick fan when it came to BSB but I was not crazy in love with them unlike this last band.
As I sit here I recollect about the days of when I was in infatuated with my first crush Joey McIntyer from the New Kids on the Block. I had my wall caked in posters and I had all the cassette tapes, and video tapes. I spent lots and lots of money on Teen Beat and Bop magazines, therefore my walls had a lot of money spent on this new style of wall paper. Then my parents helped this situation by giving tickets to the New Kids on the Block concert for my tenth birthday. I was so excited, it was my first concert ever, and I still have a couple memories of it. So going to their reunion tour was so nostalgic for me. I had a great time remembering all the different songs from then until now.

Bill Reid

Leisbet and I choose Bill Reid for our research pattern because our students can visit his artwork in Prince George at UNBC and at the Vancouver International Airport. My mom was just flying through Vancouver and I just missed the chance to have her take a photo of the "Spirit of Haida Gwaii" for our project.

I found an interesting video on you tube about Bill Reid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RZx1mysvNg . This video had more difficult vocabulary so we placed it nearer the end of the artifacts the students would research. I learned about organizing information for students from this process and think this project would be easy to transfer this research to my classroom.

This drawing took me back to my grade 9 and 10 years when I first discovered doing grid drawings. I found that when I did grid drawings, the art of drawing was so much easier. I have since did a few of them some examples are a Zerbra, Penguin, and an Archie comic frame. The one I did for this Art class did not turn out as well as I would have liked it to, but it had been a great deal of time since I have done anything like that. Therefore, on that note, I was glad to see it still was not difficult after all this time. This style also gives students a chance to focus on a smaller area of the picture and therefore the whole picture does not overwhelm the children at once. In a book, I read said to draw the image upside down, and the drawing will be more accurate because you are not focusing on the details of the image.

Children's Art Show

The Children’s Art show was a wonderful learning experience. It came together so well and with so many people helping it did not take long to set up. It also ran very smoothly and it looked like everyone was having a great time. The children were so proud of their work and you could see the excitement in their eyes when they were showing their parents. I enjoyed wandering around and seeing all the works that were completed by students and the different Medias that were used. The amount people and their children that did show up surprised and impressed me. I was also taken back by the fact only one of my students showed up and he only stayed for about 5 minutes so that kind of disappointed me. Especially, for the fact that the students were so honoured when they realised they go to go. Overall, I was so proud of our class, we have done a great job! Thank-you Willow for helping us organise everything.

North of Ordinary

The views are from the top of Little Bell Mountain!

The drawing and picture here is of Bell Mountain near Mc Bride it is an old abandoned ski hill. The picture I drew for being North of Ordinary was this place. Its beauty is not something that on an ordinary day everyone can see. For me if I could snap my fingers and be there when I am feeling stressed that is where I would be. It is a calm peaceful place in the summer where as long as you have a truck you can get into. It is also home to many snowmobiles in the winter but the view must be amazing during the winter. I found out how poor the view can be as well during the winter!
